London Youth Wind Band
The London Youth Wind Band was formed in 2003 as a companion ensemble to the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, providing wider opportunities for wind, brass and percussion players to work at the high musical levels achieved by the LSSO and to perform in major venues - and Dingley!
Their repertoire is eclectic and challenging, including traditional and contemporary works for band and arrangements of all kinds of music from classical through to film, stage and big band. Concerts are preceded by intensive rehearsals during the school holidays and they took an evening out of their residential week
at Grendon Hall for our concert. 42 clarinets, flutes, horns etc started off with Shostakovich's Festive Overture and delighted us all evening with their playing.
Friday 27th July : 7.30pm
City of London Chamber Orchestra
Thomas Hull, Conductor
Allan Clayton, Tenor
They performed a wonderful evening of English Music - Elgar, Holst and Britten - and as usual the audience were thrilled with the treat of being so close and involved with the music.
Sunday 29th July : 12.30pm
The Chamber Players
Susanna Candlin, Maya Magub — violins
Tom Dunn — viola
Sarah Butcher, Jane Fenton — cellos
The Chamber Players are very keen that music is presented within its social and historical context and gave an interesting spoken introduction to each piece. They played Elgar - continuing our theme of honouring his 150th anniversary - and mesmerised the audience with the Schubert quintet in C.
